Capital City Rescue Mission, Albany, NY

capital city rescue mission albany ny 2

I was worn from the driving 1600+ miles.  It was another hour to get to Albany from where we had been staying and I felt too drained to have much to offer – of course on my own I have nothing to offer and we prayed and I put the evening in the Lords hands.

“What are you doing here?” said a voice from the back of the room as i finished setting up my gear.

I introduced myself and began my set.  I shared songs that God had given me.  I told stories of how Jesus had come through for me and loved me.  I told parts of stories and linked them together so that they could see a larger picture of Gods work over time.  Sometimes I would wonder if the homeless and others who needed just the basic needs of survival could relate to a story of love.  After I had finished, one man came us and said, “sir, if I may ask,  did she marry you?”  He had missed part of the story and I answered him “yes, and she is sitting right there” pointing to Amber.  He smiled, kind of bowed, and walked off.  I was amazed to see that he was caught by the story so much to come up and ask.  I learned that we all have the same basic needs and dreams and that the story was quite relevant to them.

I sat down as a man who we would come to know as Henry walked up.  Henry was the volunteer pastor who was scheduled to give a message for the day.  He had not seen me play or even knew that we played.  He shared the Gospel and one man came up and gave his life to Christ.   As they prayed I felt prompted and so  I walked up, picked up my guitar, and sang David Crowders words:

“Oh, the sound of salvation come
The sound of rescued ones
And all this for a king
Angles join to sing
All for Christ the King!

O Praise Him”

We met Henry, who was surprised to see me start playing  music.  We told him what our purpose there was and he said “I feel and anointing here.”
